THE BEGINNING

The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund was founded in 1994 to provide an informal educational program to inspire students with the highest ideals of characters, conduct and service so that they will become resourceful, responsible citizens.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to seek, create, and provide quality programs that reflect the life and teaching of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by communication and direct instruction programs designed to meet the challenge of an ever changing world.  The organization's strengthening together in our community.

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Community Foundation (MCCF) continues its commitment to supporting area youth through various grants and scholarships.

This year marks the 30th Annual Martin Luther King Junior Book Scholarship, featuring a significant update in the scholarship amount. The application deadline is set for 5 p.m. Friday, November 4. Beth Fox, MCCF's Director of Programs, highlights the application process for high school seniors.

“The application deadline this year is November 4th," Fox states. "We've adjusted the deadline to give students ample time to prepare their applications, considering conflicts with other processes like the Common App. The scholarship committee, dedicated to the MLK scholarship, aims to position students for success."

A notable change this year is the increase in the scholarship amount to $1,000, to be divided into two payments of $500 each, distributed at the start of each academic semester. This increase is intended to better assist students in managing educational expenses.

Fox adds, “The scholarship primarily targets students graduating from Muskingum County high schools. Eligibility includes prerequisites like GPA and academic standing.

The goal is to support students in achieving their dreams of obtaining a two or four-year degree.” For more details about the MCCF’s scholarship programs, including prerequisites and the application process for the MLK scholarship, interested parties can visit mccf.org, email apolen@mccf.org, or call (740)453-5192. The scholarship recipients will be announced during the televised event on Martin Luther King Day.
